Cops are under a lot of pressure to make certain for all that their efforts to enforce the law are firm, fair, and free of biases of any kind. When a cop is photographed going along with a white supremacist rally, that can raise a few concerns about their behavior.
Louisiana police detective Raymond Mott was fired recently after a photo emerged on Facebook of him bearing the crest of the KKK while giving the Nazi salute. Lake Arthur Police Chief Ray Marcantel reportedly demanded Mott’s resignation as soon as he saw the photo, but when Mott refused, the town council unanimously voted to fire him.
The New York Daily News reported that Mott’s previous cases have been taken under review in order to determine any connection between the photo’s implications and previous complaints launched against his conduct. Mott previously tried to explain himself, initially claiming that he was doing undercover detective work for the FBI, but later admitted that he was lying.
Even so, Mott said he’s not giving up, telling KTAC that his firing was illegal and that he plans to sue the city. “The picture speaks for itself. I’m standing at a rally against illegal immigration,” Mott said. “There’s not much to be said about the picture. I’ve never denied it was me.”
