I watched a few TED Talks on relationships and someone said something very interesting in one of them: that we ask too much of our mates.
Her argument is that we expect our mates to be our everything and the standards are too high.
Looking at it from that perspective it can cause burn out (people tired of being around each other), disappointment (when the person doesn't live up to that expectation), cheating (finding others to fill roles - specifically sexual roles).
If you believe we do ask too much how do you suggest we alleviate that pressure?
